i think some of the issue comes from pricing and lack of knowledge. i have seen recasts go for much cheaper than the real thing and be of super limited runs(where there are maybe 20-100 made ever) which is a big reason they sell and why i feel there will always be people in favor of recasts but another, /bigger/, issue is that there usually is nothing to tell new buyers what is and is not legit. i have bought three dolls(one for me one for a friend and another also for me but sold soon after). one of them is original, one is a recast and one i will never know the provenance of despite it coming with a piece of paper claiming it is original. not a single one of those three dolls said anywhere whether or not they were original copies in their descriptions and only one doll has a maker's mark on it(a hidden one inside of the head, the body is mark free), new buyers are not given much if any clue as to whether or not they are buying a recast or not unless they have done extensive research(something most people do not do sadly) and have joined a community(which is often bad. many communities are elitist and nasty to newbies). i agree theft is wrong but i also believe the system is set up in such a way that buyers are not given the resources they need to make an educated decision on their dolls and when the choice is reduced in this way to a doll that costs nearly 6 months of salary if not more, a doll that requires at minimum 10-20 hours of research and several long repetitious questions and still possibly get a doll of questionable provenance or just buy the cheap doll with no info most people will gladly take the lattermost choice

it is like asking someone if they want to take a hard test they can brag about after, an easy test that takes an hour to do, or an easy test that takes only a couple minutes. people will usually pick the easy quick test
